Does coding look like a foreign language to you? If you said yes, you would be right. HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are two completely different computer languages that tell a website what to do and how to look (a bit like a strict private school Principal – “Stand in line. Tuck your shirt in!”). For anyone non-techy, it is a huge learning curve (and one a lot of people don’t want to even attempt).

These days there are some amazing web builders that require absolutely no coding knowledge. Some of these are Squarespace, Wix, and free website builders through hosting providers (like GoDaddy). These are all great for people with no technical knowledge and use a ‘drag & drop’ feature to layout your site. There are some limitations to these sites with users not being able to customise the look and layout as well as they could through another system like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla.

Then there are the other Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla. WordPress often needs a bit of coding knowledge to customise the pre-made templates. And Drupal and Joomla are more suited to web developers.

At Copper and Zinc Design we design sites using WordPress, Squarespace, or Shopify and we also have experience using Kajabi (a specialised site for online courses).
